There is this never ending debate on blogs and websites that whether crowdsourcing sites are good or bad for your business. One side claims that they are brilliant for your business as they allow you to create your brand identity after going through dozens or even hundreds of designs and they are cost-effective as well. The other side or school of thought claims that these sites are extremely bad for your business because you can never be sure of quality. You can never judge if the design was created by a professional or if a kid used some clipart and put your logo together.
To answer this critical question that whether they are good or bad for you, we need to thoroughly analyze their advantages and disadvantages. Once we have them in front of us, only then we will be able to pass a verdict and take the correct route. So, let’s analyze them step-by-step.
The first thing that we need to discuss is the authenticity of designers who participate in logo design contests. How can you judge their experience? Well, they may show you lots of logos that they have created, but how will you know that they have not copied from someone’s gallery? See, this is a big issue with crowdsourcing that you don’t know who the designers are that are willing to create your brand identity without even knowing that whether they will win or not. So, this looks fishy.
This is the very reason why the other side, anti-crowdsourcing, says that since you don’t know the designers, you can’t trust them. Creating your brand identity is not a small task. It’s about building your business reputation and giving your business a face that your market will like, admire and trust. Thus, it is crucial that you just don’t hire anyone you see. You have got to properly analyze their portfolio first and hire the one you think will be able to do the best work.
Another problem with crowdsourcing is that you won’t know if you’ll get a unique and custom logo design or a clipart logo. People who participate in logo contests to win a small amount of money only spend a small amount of time to create your brand image. This is why a lot of them won’t even hesitate to use a clipart. How will you judge that your logo is unique? Well, sadly, you can’t. But, later, when you find out, it might be too late for you to make any changes.
This is the very reason why the other side, anti-crowdsourcing, says that when you hire a professional company or designer, then you can be sure that you will receive a good quality logo design for your business. A unique design is a must for your business, because this is the only of representing your unique business in a unique way.
So, after you analyze their arguments, you can easily come to the conclusion that whether crowdsourcing logo sites are good for your business or not.
